I've just run into my first blocker.

I have the Russian and English 1.05.1 versions side-by-side.

RU has yuplay.var but EN does not??

What is yuplay.var used for?

It contains lines such as

Seems like this would be a required file, so I'm puzzled why it's absent in the EN version???

Hello Максим Некромант, (I just found out that I can copy/paste cyrillic text)

I looked for more information on yuplay, is it this?
"yuPlay is a digital distribution service based on interaction of game players, communities and game developers."
There are plane games (Wings of Prey).

Anyway, what is the version of the latest official Russian version of Eador?
According to the Russian New Horizons thread, it is 1.05.1
The English version distributed by GOG is at 1.05.2 but there are only minor text corrections.
Maybe I have this old file because I did like they said in the thread:
Install an old version (1.04) then patch to latest 1.05.1
I suppose this is how I got the stale file?

I have English versions 1.05.1 and 1.05.2 and I made a complete diff of Text and var folders, and I saw only minor text modifications...

Where are the game balance modifications? In what file do they nerf the light melee??
Is it unit.var ?? They are identical in English .1 and .2
=> checking Russian version...
Ah yes there are differences there!!!
Is there a way to attach a file on this forum?

Maybe, official English release and "unofficial" GOG release is same, but there are difference with official Russian version.
Sorry, but you can't attach file, only upload them to other filehosts (DropBox, Yandex.Disk or GoogleDrive, but the last is not good, you have to change settings for share files) and write a public link to file in your post, which you can take from host, that you choose. After that select the text of links and pick an "URL" button in top of redactor to convert text into link. It will be seen as [uгl]your link[/uгl] in the redactor's box. Oh, doesn't copy the code, because I replace the "r" to the Russian symbol "г". They look like as same, but they are difference.
P.S. You may not paste my nick as Максим Некромант, I'm not offense if you translate them or write by "translit" - Russian symbols by English with similar pronouncation, if it is easy for you Smile

One other important question about the SYNTAX of the files.

In unit.var there are some TABs between the Abilityes: section and the upgrades: section.
Can I remove them, or will it break everything?
Is the syntax documented for every .var file? (in russian or english)

Also can you briefly explain how the upgrades section works?
What does Lvl 01 upgrades: (30, 4; 1, 4; 20, 4; 13, 4) mean?

I suppose for the name, we look at unit_upg.var
but 4; 1; 4 ???

It's very hard to tell you, how mechanics is work, also, the reason for this is that I don't speak English as well as that needing to help you with your last question. Well, here's a zeroth-order approximation:
As a unit levels, upgrades in corresponding line are added to his upgrade pool. This pool is, effectively, a list of possible uprgades and their weights. Note, that it can contain several entries for the same upgrade, with individual weights. Upgrade pool is stored individually for each unit and is never cleared.
After adding new level upgrades to the pool, a weighted uniformly distributed random function picks two entries of different upgrades and presents to a player for a choice. Two entries of the same upgrade, as well as some other combinations, cannot be chosen.
When a player chooses one entry of the two, upgrade that entry specified is added to a unit itself, and entry is deleted from the pool.
Note that entries not chosen by the player, as well as ones not presented for a choosing by a Random Number God, remain in the pool and can be presented by RNG later. That +1 stamina you declined at lvl1 can theoretically be presented for each end every level up to 30, albeit the probability is dim.
"30, 4;" in this case means 30th upgrade from unit_upg.var with a weight of 4 (pretty standard weight in this system). Levels 21-30 do not have the corresponding lines, and do not add upgrade entries to the pool; entries remaining in the pool are used for levelups 21-30.
