Can't get New Horizons to run

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, if not please let me know where it would be more appropriate.

I have the 1.05.1 version of the game from GOG.com. I installed the mod and the latest patch but I'm currently unable to get past the first loading screen.

The game loads a small amount and then a red error message comes up reading "error reading unit_picts.dat". This is weird because to my knowledge no file of that name exists in either the original gamefiles or the mod. I tried compatibility mode, running as administrator, and even renaming unit_icons.dat to unit_picts (didn't work).

Frankly I'm stumped and I'd appreciate any ideas as to what might let me play the mod.

You have no file "unit_picts.dat" in the folder "dat". Most likely, he or damaged during download, or you do not have the latest version of the mod. For a normal run of the game requires the following files starting with "unit":
Unit_icons.dat
Unit_picts.dat
Unit_shadow.dat
Unit_shadowf.dat
Unit_sound.dat
Units.dat

Would you mind sharing the link to the current version? I tried what I thought was the latest thread and I can only find versions missing Unit_picts.dat

The most recent NH eng release is 2.5 (2.50c) and does not require an additional patch.


Here you go http://eador.online.fr/Eador250c.zip

Please try the following:
A.) Redownload 1.05.1 setup from GOG and reinstall

B.) Download 2.50c

C.) Install 2.50c
Step 1.) Unzip Eador Genesis New Horizons mod Eador250c.zip
Step 2.) Open file folder "Eador250c"
Step 3.) Select and copy all files e.g. by Ctrl+A, followed by Ctrl+C
Step 4.) Open game folder, in my case it would be C:\GOG Games\Eador Genesis
Step 5.) Paste all mod files at once e.g. by Ctrl+V over existing vanilla files. If prompted, select "overwrite all".

Let us know if you still have issues getting New Horizons to run.

NOTE: 2.50c is "self-contained", it's not missing any files. So the only required steps are:

1) Download 2.50c
2) Unzip 2.50c (anywhere you want)
3) Double click on Eador.exe
4) Start playing
